City Council May Vote AGAIN to Slash Fire Department
Monday, May 22nd at 9:00 AM

Please complete this form to show your support for public safety and ask the council to keep Big Spring Safe!
Friends and residents of Big Spring,
After passing temporary funding through the end of May, the Big Spring City Council once again set to consider high-risk public safety budget cuts.
The critical cuts to public safety will reduce the number of firefighters on the city's fire engines by 40 percent, to just two firefighters — even further below national fire service safety standards that we currently are.
Currently, your Big Spring Fire Fighters operate with a minimum of 20 personnel on duty each day and a minimum of three firefighters on every fire engine. Fire service coverage already is 25 percent BELOW the national standard. Further cuts would imperil citizens and firefighters alike.
Don’t be misled by the politics and rhetoric. The city had put millions in to reserve funds, capital improvement funds, and other accounts in the last few years. Revenues are currently not shrinking and the city has the funds to maintain the current minimal number of firefighters
Based on our thorough accounting review, maintaining the current three-firefighter minimum is both affordable and achievable, WITHOUT A TAX INCREASE.
Your Big Spring Fire Fighters have a sworn responsibility to advocate for public safety. We are the local experts in fire protection, fire extinguishment, advanced life support paramedicine, rescue, and EMS. These proposed budget cuts place our community at undue risk of needless loss, tragedy, and heartbreak.
Please complete the form to register your support for public safety. And then, make plans to join your Big Spring Fire Fighters at City Hall on Monday, May 22nd at 9:00 AM and show your opposition to the proposed cuts in your family’s safety.
Together, we can urge the council to protect lives and keep Big Spring safe.
Thank you for your support.
